Clean core extensibility for SAP S/4HANA Cloud and BTEs in Abap Classic

eliseo.camacho - 08/26/2025 - 02:47

Hello, what are the recommendations or best practices for applying Clean Core to a Cloud Private Edition if I need to activate the old BTEs? In other words, what is the successor to the BTEs and how can I implement it with best practices? I tried to search for it in SAP Business Accelerator Hub but didn't find anything or didn't know how to find it.

Hello Eliseo,

the only extensibility concept for ABAP Cloud is BADI here. You can check, if you can find a BADI, that fits you needs. If there is no BADI, you can use the BTE, it should be Level B/C. Have you checked Cloudification Repository for the BTE, I am not sure if there are also the function module listed.

Greetings Björn

Hello Eliseo,

sorry, I accidentally deleted your comment instead of releasing it. As in the article described, are Level B and C Clean Core. If you have the name of the BTE, then check it in the Cloudification Repository. What is the BTE you are searching for?

eliseo.camacho - 08/26/2025 - 23:33

Don't worry about the deletion, thank you for answering.

Well, the BTE is 1120, and what I want, and if possible, for a CLOUD PRIVATE EDITION version, the best practices follow the Clean Core rules or extensibility to be able to implement the successor to the BTE.

I have already searched in Cloudification Repository and SAP Business Accelerator Hub, without success, what I think is that I am not applying the search correctly to obtain information.

Greetings from Colombia

In this case I would try to check the released object tree in ADT grouped by Software-Component. So we know, that the only supported technology is BADI and the BTE is in S4CORE.

When we check the tree, we can find the Spots FIN_ACDOC_SUBSTITUTION and FIN_ACDOC_VALIDATION. The succesor for BKPF/BSEG ist ACDOCA. So maybe check this for substitution. But this is more the manual way. You could also check Key User Apps for Extension possibilities.

Cloud ATC - Simplification Database?

Ian - 08/19/2025 - 12:47

Hi Bjoern

Thanks for the great summary and highlighting the need for the simplification db for the changelog. I'm assuming this feature is only available for the on premise ATC? We would like to transition to a Central Cloud ATC away from our on premise Central ATC but I'm not aware of the simplification db on the cloud version.

Regards Ian

Hello Ian,

the new check for the Changelog should be first available in Cloud ATC and as I have read, later via downport to the on-prem landscape. We are running Central ATC since around one year in the ABAP Environment, was the best step forward for us.

Greetings Björn

Hi Björn

We have been running an on-premise Central ATC for many years (6 at least) and would like to transition to the BTP ATC. Good to know the changelog will be first implemented here.

Are you running the BTP Central ATC? And if so, how do you handle the lack of email functionality to contact exemption approvers, requesters?

Regards Ian

Xexer - 08/26/2025 - 21:55

Hello Ian,

since we started operating the ATC in the BTP, we've been missing some features that would have been nice. Email notifications, the 4-eye-principle and group assignment, for example. SAP is delivering the features with the next releases. I have to check, E-Mail notification should be in this release or maybe the next one. At the moment, our colleagues contact us via email (manual) if they need approval. Otherwise, they can't transport on the new systems.

The biggest benefit for us was the latest release. We often had problems with systems having a higher release than the central system.

Greetings Björn

Hi Björn

Indeed, the 4-eyes principle and lack of group assignment were also part of our request to Olga and Thomas :-) I will check on the delivery of these features as these have been blockers for us until now but if they are imminent, I may start the process of transition again. We will need to stick with the on -premise ATC for some time anyway though as we have several systems on ECC 7.31 still but at least we can get the new S/4 systems onto the Cloud ATC.

Thanks Ian

Project Kernseife and ATC Exemption process

Alwin van de Put - 08/15/2025 - 08:59

It's always very informative to read Software-Heroes' in-depth articles. Thanks for all the articles.

Here are some additions to this article.

The article states "Always Working with the exception process." Do you mean "ATC Exemptions."? See link: https://help.sap.com/doc/saphelp_snc700_ehp01/7.0.1/en-US/3a/759579e173410caa551e0d428bd7d6/frameset.htm

It's also worth mentioning that the open-source project "Kernseife" aims to make the measurement of the various levels of clean-core accurate. See blog: https://community.sap.com/t5/technology-blog-posts-by-sap/project-kernseife-improving-the-measurement-of-clean-core-in-abap/ba-p/14099819

Hi Alwin,

thank you for the correction, was an autotranslation error. Yes you are right, Kernseife could help to improve this quality.

Greetings Björn
